Funding Circle, a London-based operator of an online marketplace for business loans, said today that it has raised $65M in a funding for expansion in the United States and other international markets. The company--which has its US operations based out of San Francisco-said that the Series D funding came from Index Ventures, and also included Accel Partners, Union Square Ventures and Ribbit Capital. As part of the funding, Robert K. Steel of Perella Weinberg Partners will join the company's board. Steel has previously served at Wachovia, Goldman Sachs, and was the Under Secretary for Domestic Finance of the United States Treasury and Deputy Mayor of New York.
