Google Swizzles Web Alerts
Mountain View-based Google told users of its web alerts today that it is going to retire alerts on web page mentions, because the firm has found that they are "used by very few people." Instead, the firm told users that they will change those alerts to "Everything" alerts, which lets users know when they are mentions of terms in news, blog feeds, and other information streams from the site. The changes come a few days after Google changed its indexing infrastructure, moving from a layered approach to a more encompassing indexing scheme.
