TurnItIn.com is the bane of cheating students, a it cross references writing assignments turned into teachers to determine if those papers -- or parts of those papers -- have been lifted from the Internet, existing libraries of papers on topics, or other sources -- helping them to figure out how original (or not) those assignments actually are.
