Wikia Buys LyricWiki
San Francisco-based Wikia announced Wednesday that it has bought LyricWiki, an online database of music lyrics. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. LyricWiki provides licensed lyrics to popular songs and other information about music artists. As part of the acquisition, Wikia said it has secured a licensing deal with Gracenote, which is a subsidiary of Sony, to ensure that music royalties will be paid to music publishers. Gracenote handles licensing of lyrics to online music sites and publishers.
