Aster Data Snags $30M
San Carlos-based Aster Data, a developer of data warehousing and analytics products, said Wednesday that it has raised $30M in a Series C funding round. The round came from Sequoia Capital, JAFCO Ventures, Institutional Venture Partners, Cambrian Ventures, a new, un-named strategic investor, as well as individual investor David Cheriton. The firm said the funding will go towards accelerating growth, scaling operations, and expanding its market share. Cheriton has previously backed Google and VMware. The new round brings the firm's total raised to around $57.0M. Aster Data's products are used for analytics operations and data mining by firms such as MySpace, comScore, Barnes & Noble, and Akamai.
