Cisco Buys Lightwire
San Jose-based Cisco said last week that it intends to acquire Lightwire, a developer of optical interconnects. Cisco said it would pay approximately $271M in cash and retention-based incentives for Lightwire. Lightwire integrates both active and passive optical functions onto CMOS chips, which helps to reduce the size of optical interconnects. Lightwire becomes part of Cisco's Transceiver Modules Group Business Unit.
