![]() Wednesday, December 20, 2006 HP Buys Bitfone Palo Alto-based HP said today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Laguna Nigel-based Bitfone, a venture-backed provider of software for updating wireless phones. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. HP said Bitfone will become part of HP's Handheld Business Unit as part of its strategy to grow its mobile enterprise business. Xyratex said it is acquiring intellectual property, capital assets, and the Ario Data Networks team. Ario develops RAID controllers for SATA and SAS disk drive systems. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The funding came from Saints Capital, along with prior investors 3i and Infinity Capital. Forte said the funding will go towards the firm's ESL design flow tools, and to build it's worldwide presence. PortAuthority provides information leak prevention technology for the network security market. The firms have been working together via an OEM technology alliance since September. PortAuthority is venture backed by ALP Enterprises, CAP Ventures, Greylock Partners, Lexington Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, and Sequoia Capital. The firm, which is developing a search engine focused on people, said the round came from Clearstone Venture Partners and Opus Capital Ventures. Spock will use the funding to expand its hiring, for infrastructure, and product development. William Quigley of Clearstone, Ken Elefant of Opus Capital, and Siva Kumar of TheFind.com have joined the firm's board. Ericsson will pay $25 per share of Redback for the firm. The acquisiiton is expected to close in early 2007. According to the firms, Redback will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ericsson, and retain its management team. Redback is a provider of IP network routing equipment.
