    Emergence Capital Adds Stiefler As Venture Partner
    San Mateo-based Emergence Capital Partners said Tuesday that it has named Jeffrey Stiefler as a venture partner at the firm. Stiefler was most recently chairman and CEO of Digital Insight, which he sold to Intuit for $1.4B. Stiefler has also served at American Express and as CEO of IDS Financial Services. Emergence said the hiring of Stiefler will help expand the firm's team and network in the SaaS market.

    Sprout Grows $5M
    San Francisco-based Sprout said Tuesday that it has raised $5M in a Series B funding, for the firm's Web-based, widget authoring platform. The funding was led by Polaris Venture Partners, and also included Global Venture Capital and Lotus founder Mitch Kapor. Mike Hirschland of Polaris has joined the firm's board of directors as part of the funding. Sprout develops Web-based software for creating widgets, mashups, and other interactive Flash web content.

    Social Gaming Network Grabs $15M
    Palo Alto-based Social Gaming Network, a publisher of games for Facebook and other social networking web sites, said Tuesday morning that it has raised $15M in a Series A funding. The funding came from Greylock Partners, Founders Fund, Columbia Capital and Novak Biddle Venture Partners. According to the firm it is creating a ecosystem for the creation and publication of games on the "social web." The firm is behind the game Warbook, an online game available through Facebook.

    Greystripe Signs Deal With Sega
    San Francisco-based Greystripe, a distributor of advertising supported mobile games, said today that it has inked a deal with Sega to distribute its games for free. According to Greystripe, it will make three of Sega's classic game titles -- Sonic Jump, Afterburner II, and Golden Axe--available for free in an ad-supported distribution deal. Greystripe is venture backed by Incubic, Monitor Venture Partners, Steamboat Ventures, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati LLP.

    Expresso Fitness Gets $12M
    Sunnyvale-based Expresso Fitness, a developer of web-enabled, cardio fitness systems for athletic and health clubs, said today that it has raised $12M in a Series C-2 round of funding. The investment was led by Physic Ventures, and also included existing investors Sierra Ventures and Enterprise Partners Venture Capital.     Oracle Buys AdminServer
    Redwood Shores-based Oracle said today that it has acquired AdminServer, a provider of insurance policy administration software. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Oracle said that it would use AdminServer's product offering as a core component of its existing insurance industry software. AdminServer's CEO, Rick Connors, will join Oracle to lead a new business unit focused on operational applications for the insurance industry.     HP Buys EDS For $13.9B
    Hewlett-Packard Co. has agreed to acquire Texas-based IT outsourcing firm Electronic Data Systems Corp., in a deal worth $13.9 billion, the firm said this morning. According to HP, it will pay $25.00 per share in cash for EDS, which provides IT outsourcing services to businesses. According to the firms, the deal has been unanimously approved by their boards of directors, and is expected to close in the second half of calendar 2008.     Metacafe Hires CFO
    Palo Alto-based Metacafe said this morning that it has hired on Michael Strambi as the firm's Chief Financial Officer. Strambi joins the firm from MobiTV, where he was VP of Finance. Strambi has also served at Macromedia, Blue Martini Software, Sun-Diamond Growers of California, and Ernst & Young. Metacafe is an online, user-generated video sharing web site.
