 Monday, December 14, 2009 Google, Facebook Both Launch URL Shorteners Monday was a busy day for URL shortening services, with both Google and Facebook launching their own services for shortening long web addresses. Google said it has created goo.gl, the Google URL Shortener, which works with the firm's Google Toolbar and FeedBurner services; Google's service is currently not available as a stand-alone service, the firm said. The funding was led by DAG Ventures, Benchmark Capital, and Carmel Ventures. According to Kim, the new San Francisco firm will invest in both non-traditional private equity and venture capital investments. ON said it is paying approximately $108M in cash, or $4.70 per share, for California Micro Devices. ON Semiconductor said the deal will "significantly strengthen" the firm's offerings in application specific, integrated passive devices for protecting products in the wireless, computing and consumer electronics markets.
