    Playdom Buys Offbeat Creations
    Mountain View-based social gaming firm Playdom said Wednesday afternoon that it has acquired Offbeat Creations, a developer and publisher of social media games for Facebook. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Offbeat Creations is behind the title Super Farkle, a dice game. Offbeat founders Chia Chin Lee, Robert Reichner and Tom Fakes will all join Playdom as part of the acquisition.

    Cloudmark Takes $23M
    San Francisco-based Cloudmark, a developer of messaging security software, said today that it has raised $23M in a new round of funding. The firm said the funding, which it characterized as growth equity, came from Summit Partners and Nokia Growth Partners, along with existing investors Ignition Partners and Industry Ventures.     GEO Semiconductor Gets Investments From Jupiter Systems
    Santa Clara-based Geo Semiconductor, a developer of video processing semiconductors used for 3D, digital cinema, medical, and other displays, said today that it has scored a equity investment from Jupiter Systems, a supplier of processors for the command and control market. Financial terms of the investment were not announced. Geo Semiconductor said the investment came alongside a strategic partnership with Jupiter Systems.     Omidyar Network Boosts NewsTrust
    The Omidyar Network, the philanthropic investment firm created by eBay's Pierre Omidyar, said Tuesday that it will give $100,000 over six months to Mill Valley-based NewsTrust, a nonprofit operator of an online social news services and creator of related tools. According to Omidyar Network, the funding wil go towards building such software as a personal news filtering tool, a rating systems for local and international news, and a community fact-checking service.
