    FiveStars Scores $13.9M
    Mountain View-based FiveStars, which is developing a unified, loyalty card which can be swiped at multiple retailers, has raised $13.9M in a Series A funding, the company said Thursday. The round came from Lightspeed Venture Partners and DCM, and also included YCombinator, Mayfield Fund, and angel investors, Hadi and Ali Partovi, and Chamath Palihapitiya. FiveStars is headed by Victor Ho.

    Gild Gains $2M
    San Francisco-based Gild, a developer of HR and recruiting software, said Thursday that it has raised $2M in a seed funding round. The round was led by Globespan Capital Partners, and also included angel Mark Kvamme. The firm said the funds will go towards its technology, team, and to expand its list of clients. Gild's software is used to find and profile developers, by analyzing open source code projects.

    Synopsys Buys SpringSoft
    Mountain View-based Synopsys, the developer of electronic design automation software tools, said today that it has acquired SpringSoft, a Taiwanese developer of specialized IC design software. Synopsys said it will pay approximately $406M for SpringSoft, which is publicly traded in Taiwan. After accounting for cash on hand, Synopsys said the deal will be worth $305M.     The Playforge Acquired By Saban Brands
    San Mateo-based mobile game developers The Playforge has been acquired by Saban Brands, the investment arm of media mogul Haim Saban. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. The Playforge develops the popular iOS game Zombie Farm, and was founded by Vince McDonnell and Susan Salvador.
