    Salesforce.com Completes Buddy Media Buy
    San Francisco-based Salesforce.com said Monday afternoon that it has completed its acquisition of Buddy Media, the developer of social media marketing tools. Salesforce.com had said it would pay $689M for Buddy media in June. Buddy Media's software allows marketing teams to publish and optimize social content and advertising on sites such as Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and others.

    Actian Makes Hostile Bid For Pervasive Software
    Redwood City-based Actian said Monday that it has made a proposal to acquire IT software maker Pervasive Software. Actian said it has offered to pay $8.50 per share in cash for Pervasive, making the deal worth around $154M. Actian said that Pervasive is a "excellent strategic fit for Actian". Actian is a developer of database analysis tools.

    Clutch.io Acquired By Twitter
    Clutch.io, a San Francisco developer of A/B website testing tools, has been acquired by Twitter. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Clutch.io said that Twitter has acquired the IP of Clutch.io, hired its team, but wil lbe shutting down the firm's service. As part of that move, Clutch.io said it would make its A/B testing services available to users by releasing "everything you need to run Clutch (More info...)

    Google Buying Frommer's
    Mountain View-based Google is set to buy travel publisher Frommer's, according to multiple reports today. Financial details of the acquisition have not yet been announced. Frommer's, which publishes a lengthly list of travel books and guides, will become part of Zagat, the restaurant review unit now owned by Google. Frommer's was previously owned by publisher Wiley, which has been looking to sell the unit since March.

    SolFocus Gains $15M
    Palo Alto-based SolFocus, which develops concentrating photovoltaic solar power systems, has raised $15M in a Series E funding, according to VentureWire today.     Google Whacks 4,000 At Motorola Mobility
    Mountain View-based Google has cut 4,000 employees out of its new Motorola Mobility unit, out of around 20,000 employees, the company said today via a regulatory filing. Two thirds of those cuts were outside the U.S. Google said the cuts come along with plans to close or consolidate about one-third of 90 facilities owned by Motorola.
