RIP AltaVista, Yahoo Buzz, Delicious, MyBlogLog

Sunnyvale-based Yahoo is set to shut down a huge swath of the firm's properties, including AltaVista, Yahoo Buzz, Delicious, MyBlogLog, Yahoo Bookmarks, Yahoo Buzz, and more, according to slides leaked to the Internet by a Yahoo employee. The cuts come as Yahoo announced it would lay off over 600 employees. Among the cuts, the shutdown of Altavista marks the end of one of the oldest search engines on the Internet, nearly as old as Yahoo itself. AltaVista was launched in December of 1995, originally as a project of Digital Equipment Corporation, pre-dating Google, offering up the first, full text database of the web.
