    Smashwords Buys New Zealand Firm

Los Gatos-based Smashwords, a distributor of electronic books, said Thursday that it has acquired New Zealand firm BookHabit Limited. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Smashwords said it would immediately begin migrating BookHabit's authors, books, and customers over to Smashwords platform, which is used to publish electronic books to a variety of electronic readers. Bookhabit was founded in 2008, and was funded by New Zealand business incubator and angel investment fund WebFund. Smashwords is headed by Mark Coker.
