    Transitive Acquired By IBM

Los Gatos-based Transitive, a developer of cross-platform virtualization software, was acquired by IBM Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Transitive develops virtualization software which allows applications written on one microprocessor and operating system to run on multiple platforms. IBM said the buy will enable its customers to consolidate their Linux applications onto IBM systems. Transitive's technology was already being included as part of IBM's PowerVM software, which runs on IBM's mainframe and power Systems. Transitive was venture backed by Pond Venture Partners Ltd., Manchester Technology Fund, Crescendo Ventures, Accel Partners and Meritech Capital Partners.
