Autodesk Buys Illuminate Labs

San Rafael-based Autodesk reported this morning that it has acquired Illuminate Labs, a developer of lighting technology for game development. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Illuminate makes Beast, a middleware product, and Turtle, a plug-in for Autodesk Maya, which helps designers with in-game lighting. As part of the acquisition, Autodesk said it would hire Illuminate Labs' employees, and continue to develop and sell its technology, support customers, and sell the Beast title as a standalone product. The firm said it will incorporate Turtle into future offerings, and discontinue its license as a standalone product.
