Palo Alto-based HP announced yesterday that it is acquiring Mercury Interactive, a provider of IT management software, for $4.5 billion. HP will pay $52.00 per share for Mercury. HP said that the acquisition would bring together HP's OpenView systems, network and IT service management software with Mercury's application management, application delivery, IT governance, and service oriented architecture software. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
