Google Plans Solar-Powered Campus
EI Innovations, a solar system integrator, said Monday evening that the firm will begin constructing a 1.6MW rooftop and parking lot photovoltaic energy system for Google. The project will be the largest solar-powered corporate office complex in the United States. The solar electricity system will power Google's Mountain View campus, and will be installed on both the rooftops of buildings and over the parking lot at Google. 1.6MW is enough to power 1,000 typical California homes. EI Innovation is the systems integration arm of Pasadena, California-based Energy Innovations, an Idealab-backed startup in the solar power space. EI Solutions said that the project will involve 9,212 solar panels from Sharp Electronics.
