Mountain View-based SGI said late last night that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against ATI Technologies. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Wisconsin, alleges that ATI's Radeon graphics processors infringe on a patent held by SGI. SGI said that it seeks unspecified damages and an injunction against future infringement by ATI. The patent is question is U.S. Patent No. 6,650,327, entited "Display system having floating point rasterization and floating point framebuffering", granted on November 18, 2003 and assigned to Silicon Graphics.
