Santa Clara-based Symyx Technologies, a research firm developing research for the pharmaceutical, chemical, energy, and electronics industry, said today that it has spun off a new, independent company to develop commercial applications based on proprietary sensor technologies. The new firm, Visyx Technologies, has received venture capital funding from CMEA Ventures, plus $400,000 in funding from Symyx. Visyx will focus on commercializing sensors for use in passenger, truck, and off-road vehicles. As part of the funding, Symyx President Isy Goldwasser and CMEA VEntures Robert McIntyre have joined Visyx's board of directors.
