San Francisco-based Linden Lab, operators of the popular Second Life virtual world, said today that it will open source its viewer application to the software development community. The move makes it possible for developers to connect into the Second Life virtual world and add new features, modifications, and enhancements. Linden Lab said it will incorporate code changes from the open source project into the official version of its Second Life Viewer after review by its in-house engineering team.
