Santa Clara-based Solaicx, a manufacturer of silicon wafers for the solar power industry, said today it has closed $27.1M in Series C funding for the firm. The round was led by D.E. Shaw group, and also included investments from Mitsui Ventures, Applied Ventures, Firsthand Capital Management, Big Sky Ventures, and Greenhouse Capital Partners. Solaicx is a manufacturer of mono-crystalline silicon ingots and wafers targeted for use in photovoltaic applications. Solaicx said the funding will go towards scaling out its manufacturing.
