Sunnyvale-based Modulus Video has been acquired by Motorola, the firms said this morning, under the terms of a definitive merger agreement. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Modulus Video develops MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) compression systems, used for encoding video content for the IPTV, cable, broadcast, and satellite markets. Motorola said that Modulus Video will become part of the firm's Home and Networks Mobility business, and will continue to operate in Sunnyvale. Modulus has received venture capital backing from Thomas Weisel Partners and Trinity Ventures, and was founded in 2002.
