San Francisco-based venture capital firm CMEA Ventures announced Thursday that James Kim has been promoted to Senior Partner in the firm's Energy & Material practice. Kim, who has been at CMEA since 2007, has previously served at GE Commercial Finance and GCI Partners. Kim led CMEA's investment in lithium-ion battery firm A123 Systems. CMEA said that it has made ten investments so far in ten companies in the energy and materials space, including a number of stealth investments. Investments in A123 Systems, cNano, Codexis, Intermolecular and Superprotonic have been disclosed publicly; the firm has also made investments in Luminus Devices, Solyndra, an undisclosed specialty battery firm, and a undisclosed hydrogen storage firm.
