PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) reported Q1 venture capital totals over the weekend, reporting that nationwide, venture capital investments totaled $7.1B over 922 deals. The quarterly venture capital totals--based on data from Thomson Reuters--found that quarterly investment activity was down 8.5 percent from Q4 of 2007. Nationwide, the biotechnology industry topped investments, with $1.27B going into 126 deals, followed by Softare, which had $1.26B in investment in 234 deals. Regionally, PWC reported that the Bay Area had $2.586 billion in venture deals -- as usual, leading the nation -- over 306 investments.
