Gracenote Acquired By Sony
Emeryville-based Gracenote, a provider of metadata for the music market, has been acquired by Sony for $260M. Gracenote--which was previously known as CDDB--provides information about music albums, tracks, and artists, along with other services. Sony said it is looking to develop Gracenote as a separately run business unit. Gracenote's senior management team will remain with the firm. The deal is expected to close in late May.
