San Francisco-based Sofinnova Ventures, an early stage venture firm investing in both life sciences and information technology, said late Thursday that it has named Dr. Lars Ekman as a Executive-in-Residence at the firm. According to firm, Ekman will work with the firm's investment team to identify and build early-stage companies. Ekman is the former Executive Vice President and President of Global Research and Development at Elan Corporation. He has also previously served at Schwartz Pharma AG and Pharmacia (Pfizer), and is aboard certified surgeon with a Ph.D. in experimental biology. Ekman is on the board of ARYx Therapeutics, InterMune, and Cebix.
