Google Looks To Meter Power
Mountain View-based
Google
said today that it is in the midst of working on a project to help consumers monitor their power usage. The firm said its new software--Google PowerMeter---is currently only available to its employees, but will allow users to monitor smart meter information. Smart meters, which are slowly being deployed into use in the U.S. and elsewhere, provide digital connections into power consumption in households. Google's tool allows consumers to see home energy information in near-real time. Google did not say when or if the tool would be available to the general public.
