San Carlos-based Aster Data Systems, a developer of a database targeted at the data warehousing market, said this morning that it has added $5M in the firm's Series B funding round. Aster said the new funding came from Institutinoal Venture Partners (IVP). The additional funding brings the company's total Series B funding to $17M. The firm had announced the first close of the round in January. The Series B was led by JAFCO Ventures, and also includes Sequoia Capital, Cambrian Ventures and First Round Capital. The firm's data warehousing database is based on using clusters of low cost commodity hardware to accelerate database queries.
