San Jose-based
Atmel has laid off 293 workers, including 27 employees at the firm's headquarters, according to
reports. The firm manufactures semiconductors, including microcontrollers, automotive controllers, RFID chips, smart card products, and more. The move comes shortly after it sold its German operations, a failed takeover bid by Microchip and ON Semiconductor, and ongoing restructuring of the firm.
