Omidyar Network, the philanthropic investment firm started by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, said today it has granted $2M to the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit behind Wikipedia. According to the firm, Matt Halprin of Omidyar has been appointed to the board of trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation. The grant is for two years, and also comes with what Omidyar describes as "dedicated" internal resources to support strategic planning, communications, and recruiting for Wikipedia.
