Amazon.com has announced seven companies as finalists in its 2009 AWS Start-Up Challenge, a contest which awards $100,000 to promising startups using the firm's web services offerings. This year, of the seven finalists, six of the seven firms are located in the San Francisco area. Bizo, FlightCaster, Gazaro, GoodData, Involver, Motally, and ReTel Technologies were all selected as finalists in the competition, with all in San Francisco except Gazaro, which is based in Texas. Amazon said it would announce the winners at the Plug and Play Center in Sunnyvale in December.
