eBay said Wednesday afternoon that it has acquired the iPhone bar code scanning application
RedLaser and related technology from developer
Occipital. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. RedLaser allows users to scan bar codes and search for those products on the Internet. As part of the deal, eBay said it would use the technology to enhance its eBay Marketplace, eBay Selling, StubHub and Shopping.com applications. eBay also said it is making RedLaser a free app, effective immediately, and adding connections to eBay. Occipital is one of the firms in the TechStars incubation effort in Boulder, and remains an independent company.
