Complicating an increasingly hectic patent battlefield,
Motorola said Wednesday afternoon that it sued
Apple Computer over patents it holds. Motorola said that Apple's iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and certain Mac computers infringe Motorola patents. The complaint was filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission, as well as in the Northern District of Illinois and the Southern District of Florida. Motorola said it has 18 patents which cover "key technology areas" in Apple's core products and associated services. The lawsuit comes after months of suits between Nokia and Apple over patents, as well as another, patent suit filed by Microsoft against Motorola just last week covering Motorola's use of features found in Google's Android phone operating system.
