Google Chops Labs Effort
Mountain View-based Google said Wednesday that it is cutting down its public experiments effort, Google Labs. The firm said it would "wind down" the effort--which allowed people to experiment with prototypes created by Google engineers before they were released--because it wanted to put "more wood behind fewer arrows." Google Labs had been a place where Google engineers could experiment with all sorts of different kinds of "wild and crazy" projects, everything from 3D graphics tools to software testing tools an dmore, and still allow users to play with those software projects before they were fully baked or supported.
