San Jose-based Cisco said today that it will pay approximately $5 billion for NDS Group Ltd., a developer of video software and content security products. NDS is based in London. Cisco said it will use NDS to complement and accelerate its Videoscape platform aimed at service providers and media companies, in addition to expanding its reach into emerging markets like China and India. NDS has approximately 5,000 employees, who will become part of Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group (SPVTG).
