According to a report today, the un-named
AOL subsidiary sold to
Microsoft yesterday in the $1 billion patent sale was one other than
Netscape, the original web browser firm co-founded by Marc Andreessen, the now venture capital investor. The details came in a
report from AllThingsD. The report--crediting a "person familiar with the transaction"--said AOL sold its Netscape subsidiary--although not the brand name--to Microsoft to reduce its tax bill on the deal.
