Google said today that it wil lbegin selling gifts cards to the Google Play store at a number of retailers, including Target, GameStop, and Radio Shack. The new gift cards, which will be available in a number of denominations, will help the firm compete against Amazon and iTunes for customers. Physical gift cards are still popular with individuals, who are giving those cards as gifts, and also are used by those without credit cards--particularly teenagers--to purchase items online. Google Play said the gift cards will allow users to shop for Android apps and games, and also for in-app purchases and virtual currency.
