SunPower Acquires SolarBridge
San Jose-based SunPower said this morning that it has acquired Solar Bridge Technologies, a developer of microinverter technology used to improve the efficiency of solar panel installs. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SunPower said it willl use the buy to expand its product line. Microinverters are used to convert the DC power on solar panels into usage, AC power directly at the panel, rather than through bulky inverters. The technique makes those panels much more efficient, particularly in shady conditions. SolarBridge was venture backed by Shea Ventures, Battery Ventures, Rho Ventures and Osage University Partners.
