OpenAI Gets $1 Billion To Fund Artificial Intelligence Effort
A new, nonprofit, research institution focused on developing artificial intelligence software--OpenAI--said late Friday that it has scored a committment for $1 billion in funding to advance AI technology. The group said the funding commitment came from Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Elon Musk, Reid Hoffman, Jessiva Livingston, Peter Theil, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Infosys, and YC Research. The nonprofit says it is looking to advance AI technology in a way that is "most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return."
