Atmel Acquired By Microchip Technology For $3.5 Billion
San Jose-based microcontroller and semiconductor developer Atmel, and Chandler, Arizona-based chip maker Microchip Technology said late Tuesday that Microchip will pay $3.5 billion to acquire Atmel. The deal is worth $8.15 per share in cash and common stock, and has an enterprise value of around $3.4 billion. The new deal comes after an earlier acquisition deal with Dialog Semiconductor fell through.
