Apple Awards $200M To Corning For Manufacturing Plant
Apple said Friday morning that it will provide $200M to Corning Incorporated, to boost American manufacturing, through its new Advanced Manufacturing Fund. According to Corning, its Harrodsburg, Kentucky facility will be the focus on Apple's investment. Corning and Apple said they have been working together for the last 10 years. Corning supplies the "Gorilla Glass" used in the iPhone and iPad. The announcement by Apple appears to be part of a conscious effort by employers to play up their American job base. For its part, Apple said it "supports 2 million jobs across all 50 states", including 450,000 jobs at its US-based suppliers.
