Marking End Of An Era, Kodak Discontinues Kodachrome Film
Marking the end of an era, Kodak said Monday that it is discontinuing its hallmark KODACHROME film, saying that the film "represents a fraction of one percent of our film sales." The film has been available for the last 72 years, and was for awhile Kodak's flagship film. The film had been replaced in Kodak's film line by newer, more environmentally friendly and easier-to-process films, plus, the number of labs capable of developing the film had fallen to just one. Kodak has also seen a big shift in its business, with more than 70 percent of its revenues now coming from its digital, not film, business. The firm has been seeing continual declines over the last few years in its film business, as both professionals and consumers have shifted to digital alternatives.
