VUDU Adds HD Titles For Purchase

Santa Clara-based VUDU, a provider of Internet-powered, video-on-demand hardware, said today that the firm has added the new ability to purchase, not just rent, HD titles on the firm's video player. According to VUDU, it will begin allowing HD movies to be purchased by owners of its hardware, who previously had been restricted to just renting those titles from its library. The firm said the first 50 titles it will sell in HD are available today, from a number of independent studios. The firm said it plans to offer "day and date" releases of HD titles from those independent studios, as they are released on DVD. The titles will cost between $13.99 and $23.99. VUDU develops a 1080p video player which downloads movie titles from the Internet.
