Asthmatx Acquired By Boston Scientific
Sunnyvale-based Asthmatx, a developer of a less invastive, catheter-based bronchial thermoplasty procedure for the treatment of severe persistent asthma, has been acquired by Boston Scientific, in a deal worth $193.5M in cash plus up to $250M more based on revenue-based earn out. Asthmatx makes the Alair Bronchial Thermoplasty System, which was approved by the U.S. FDA in April of this year. Asthmatx was venture backed by Polaris Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, MedVenture Associates, HBM BioCapital, Montreux Equity Partners, and Vanguard Ventures. Boston Scientific was also a major investor in the firm.
