Fairchild Shuts Fabs
San Jose-based
Fairchild Semiconductor
is reporting today that the firm will close down two of its wafer fabrication plants, as it looks to streamline and consolidate its wafer manufacturing. According to Fairchild, it will shut its Mountaintop, PA site and one of its fabs in Bucheon, South Korea. The firm said the move will result in 200 jobs being eliminated at its Mountaintop site, and reduce the number of fabs at the company from six to four. The firm said the cuts are expected to save the company from $20 to $25M in annual costs.
