Sunnyvale-based Zmanda, a provider of open source backup and recovery software, announced today that it has rolled out a new open API which will help in the development of applications to backing up data to the Internet. The firm said its ZCloud API which allows backup software vendors to connect into Internet-based, cloud storage like Amazon S3 and others. The new API is being open sourced, and Zmanda is releasing an open source reference implementation of the project. Zmanda is backed by Helion Venture Partners, BlueRun Ventures and Canaan Partners.
