Atmel To Sell French Fab
San Jose-based semiconductor maker Atmel said Thursday that it is planning to sell its wafer fabrication operations in Rousset, France, as part of a deal with analog/mixed signal foundry LFoundry GMbh. Atmel said the sale is dependent on approval by the Works Council in Rousset, which must approve the acquisition in accordance with French law. Atmel said it expects to record a non-cash impairment charge, not to exceed $200M, in fourth quarter 2009 related to the sale.
