Cisco Buys CoreOptics
San Jose-based Cisco said this morning that it is acquiring CoreOptics, a developer of digital signal processing (DSP) products for high speed, optical networking. Cisco said it will pay approximately $99M in cash and retention-based incentives for CoreOptics, which was also based in San Jose and which had major operations in Nuremberg and Gerlingen, Germany. Cisco said the buy will provide its customers with 100 Gigabits per second transmission technology.
