San Jose-based eBay said last week that it has acquired mobile payment company Braintree, in a deal worth $800M. Braintree develops a payment platform for mobile and online startups, including such customers as Airbnb, OpenTable, TaskRabbit and Uber. eBay said that Braintree will continue to operate as a separate service under PayPal. eBay said that Braintree is projected to have $12 billion in payment volumes for 2013.
